The Cardiac Services Department at Mackay Base Hospital is staffed by five full-time cardiologists (four interventional and one non-interventional), supported by six principal house officers/registrars, including two advanced trainees, four junior/senior house officers, and three interns. The department provides cardiology services to a population of 180,000.  

 

Accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for advanced cardiology training, the department offers a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. These services include echocardiography, transoesophageal echo (TOE) with 3D capabilities, stress echocardiography, Dobutamine stress testing, CT coronary angiography (CTCA), cardiac MRI, coronary interventions, and pacemaker implantation.

Selection Criteria:

 

  • FRACP or equivalent training from the UK, Ireland, NZ, Canada, USA, South Africa. 

You will have strong clinical expertise across a broad range of medical disciplines and subspecialties, with the ability to work independently when necessary.  

Key skills required include:  

  • Proficiency in coronary angiography (diagnostic), along with experience in one or more of the following areas:  
  •   Echocardiography  
  •    Permanent pacemaker placement and follow-up  
  •    Heart failure management  
  • You will have the ability to document clinical observations, diagnoses, and procedures in a thorough and concise manner.
  •  Experience in conducting appropriate investigations, providing effective treatments, and making timely referrals for patients.  

  • Competence in leading the process of assessment, admission, ongoing care, and discharge of patients, ensuring smooth transitions at every stage.  
  • A commitment to improving clinical practice standards, with an understanding of the relevant policy frameworks.  
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, ensuring collaborative and high-quality patient care.  
  • This role is suited to a professional who combines technical expertise with a dedication to patient care and teamwork.
