Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry

Spinner Medical Recruitment are pleased to be partnering with this progressive Australian mental health service to recruit a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry.

Job: Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry.

State: Victoria.

Package: Up to $430k ($430k being maximum for a consultant with 9 years or over experience as a specialist).

  • Up to $430k p.a. Plus additional allowances.
  • 38 hour week.
  • Beautiful coastal location - one of the fastest growing cities in regional Australia, 3 hrs drive from Melbourne.

This service is an award winning public health service in regional Australia. It comprises 2 hospitals, a mental health service and community health hubs.

There has been significant capital works investment across the campuses which also includes expanding and updating the existing inpatient unit in the mental health service. There will also be historic and significant levels of spending specifically for the mental health services.

The service is made up of psychiatrists from a wide range of international and Australian backgrounds. There is a strong sense of camaraderie, with little turnover in the existing team of consultant psychiatrists. It is a supportive group, who enjoy a manageable workload and an enviable work-life balance.

The job will be a mixture of inpatient and community work, and the service can build the job around your preferences. Rarely will you be expected to work over your contracted 38hrs per week and you will be ably supported by a great group of registrars and nursing staff.

The location is one of the fastest growing coastal regions in Australia. There is a rich choice of first rate private schools and the area provides premium lifestyle opportunities for families, singles or couples. Whether it be beaches or mountains, the scenery is incredible and the choice of evening or weekend activities is limitless: surfing, whale watching, trekking, team sports (the cricket infrastructure for kids or adult amateur level is incredible) or cultural interests. A major metropolitan city is within driving range and the climate is extremely liveable.

The job and location presents an excellent opportunity for a consultant psychiatrist trained outside of Australia to integrate into the Australian system whilst enjoying a collegiate group of colleagues and a supportive executive team.

Selection criteria include but are not limited to:

  • FRANZCP or close to completion, or you will have completed your specialist training in the UK before 2007 to qualify for the ESP pathway.
  • You will have had a broad range of experiences in general adult psychiatry.
  • Have a willingness to participate in teaching and supervising under grad and post grad doctors.
  • Experienced in quality improvement initiatives.
