Consultant in General Paediatrics
Are you a passionate General Paediatrician looking to make a meaningful impact in a modern, state-of-the-art 600 bed hospital whilst enjoying a sensational work-life balance? Canberra Hospital, the leading paediatric tertiary teaching hospital in the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding regions, is seeking senior medical practitioners to join their team. and surgical specialties.
About the Role
The department of Paediatrics located within the Hospital for Women, Youth, and Children, is a busy, positive and growing unit. It has 48 inpatient beds, busy outpatients, and a Level 6 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). They provide comprehensive care across a range of paediatric subspecialties, including Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Surgery.
They offer accredited paediatric surgical training and host a high-volume emergency department, handling over 18,000 paediatric cases annually. This position offers the chance to work alongside a highly skilled and supportive team, with excellent opportunities for professional development and involvement in teaching and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage inpatients and outpatients referred to the General Paediatric Service, ensuring first-class, family-centred care.
- Participate in the on-call roster for General Paediatrics, supporting acute paediatric patients.
- Play a key role in the clinical governance of the Paediatric Department by practicing evidence-based medicine, contributing to audits, and helping to review policies and guidelines.
- Mentor and educate junior medical staff, postgraduate trainees, and medical students, while contributing to or promoting paediatric research initiatives.
- Promote a collaborative approach within the clinical team, fostering respect and optimizing patient outcomes.

- Willingness to participate in the on-call roster.
- A current driver’s license.
