The public health service in Canberra is focused on first class, person-centred care. It provides this care in acute, sub-acute, primary and community settings throughout the ACT and nearby regions. The old age mental health service is made up of specialist inpatient and community assessment and treatment services for patients experiencing moderate to severe mental illness with complex needs and risk. The emphasis is on recovery and person-centred care.
Job highlights
- Provide care in both inpatient and community services.
- Take part in administrative, clinical governance and training activities.
- Teach and supervise under and post grad colleagues.
- Provide MDT leadership.
- Develop and strengthen stakeholder relationships such as with colleagues in other medical specialties, primary health care, NGOs , government etc.
Selection criteria
- FRANZCP with a certificate in advanced training in old age psychiatry OR equivalent training ideally gained in the UK (to satisfy ESP pathway requirements).
- Substantial experience in older age psychiatry.
- Experience in and/or ability to administer ECT services.
- First class communication skills.
- Willingness to development teaching and training.
- Ideally you have undertaken specialty specific research.
- Extensive experience in MDT settings.
