Townsville is a great spot for specialist international medical graduates to work in Australia. The health service is the largest tertiary service in northern Australia. It delivers highly specialised tertiary-level care to secondary and primary-level hospital and community healthcare settings in large geographical region - from small islands to mainland coastal city to hinterlands and beyond. There are 20 main health services. Also there are rural hospitals, mental health rehab centres, clinics, aged care, multi-purpose health services etc. In the city of Townsville there is James Cook University - a leading sciences and medical academic institution - which is a major provider of under and post grad clinical placements.
The MHS delivers a comprehensive mental health service within a person-centred care philosophy. It covers child and adolescent, addictions, adult, rehab and older-age psychiatry. Townsville Older Persons Mental Health Service is an integrated consultation and liaison community-based service providing assessment and treatment for older adults in the community. The service aims to support GPs and other health and aged-care providers, stakeholders etc. by assessing and recommending treatment for older adults with mental health problems.

There are 2 positions available at consultant level.
Selection criteria
FRANZCP or equivalet training (SIMG) gained in either Ireland, UK, NZ, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Canada or USA.
If SIMG you will have 2.5yrs FTE work experience at time of read this and have completed a training post of camhs of at least 6months.
Additionally you will also be expected to demonstrate:
- a broad range of experience in contemporary older persons psychiatry.
- evidence of innovation and clinical leadership.
- experience in supervision more junior medical staff.
- enthusiasm in mentoring, teaching and training.
- first class comm skills in which to develop and maintain strong relationships with primary health stakeholders, NGOs etc.
- a commitment to excellence in clinical governance.
