Provide high quality clinical services to older people with medical and rehabilitation needs, and to promote and provide leadership in the delivery of holistic health care for older people across this beautiful part of Queensland.

Your new hospital
Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed facility and is the main referral hospital for this region of Queensland.Specialist Medical Services include Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine,Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care and Anaesthetics.
There are also a range of clinical services provided on a visiting basis from tertiary hospitals in Queensland. A new Cancer Care Unit provides care for local patients, with state-of-the-art equipment and services.
Your new rehabilitation service
Geriatric and Rehabilitation Services (GARS) provides interdisciplinary inpatient, ambulatory and outreach services from a purpose built 16 bed facility located in Rockhampton. The Rehabilitation Physician will work closely with multidisciplinary leaders including the Nurse Unit Manager and the Program Coordinator.

Job scope highlights
You will provide high quality clinical services to older people with medical and rehabilitation needs, and to promote and provide leadership in the delivery of holistic health care for older people across the designated region. Further, you will work closely with the Director of Nursing, Aged Care Clinical and Rehabilitation Services,the Nurse Unit Manager, and the Program Coordinator within Rehabilitation Services.
Clinical practice
- Provide evidence based and best practice clinical services in the fields of rehabilitation medicine.
- Provide clinical care for inpatients and ambulatory patients.
- Provide expert opinion on patients with medical issues in Emergency Department when required and
- participate actively in-patient flow and bed capacity management.
- Supervision of an inpatient treating team when necessary.
Leadership and Management
- Provide clinical supervision for Registrars/Principal House Officers, junior and senior house officers.
- Provide quality leadership based on evidenced-based practices and by demonstrating and enabling
- adequate communication to all stakeholders along the patient's continuum of care.
- Manage the performance appraisal and development of subordinate staff.
Communication and Teamwork
- Actively contribute to the multidisciplinary patient care team.
- Contribute to the establishment and fostering of relationships between the hospital and relevant
- community groups in order to provide information about the hospital and to ensure the continuum of care for the patient.
- Provide a high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, including the capacity to consult, negotiate and resolve conflict.
Knowledge Management
- Provide education on their specialist area through training seminars and tutorials to clinical staff.
- Participate in teaching and examination of medical students.
- Contribute to and support research activities within their area of expertise.
- Maintain up-to-date college mandated requirements and demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development in their area of expertise.
Selection criteria includes:
- Fellowship of the Australian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM) or equivalent gained in either NZ, UK, Ireland, USA or Canada.
- High level of clinical knowledge and experience in rehabilitation medicine.
- Willingness to take part in teaching at under and postgraduate levels.
- Good understanding of contemporary models of care.
- A good understanding of continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous medical education.
- First class communication skills.
