You’ll play an important role in delivering high-quality mental health services. Leading a multidisciplinary team, including a psychiatry registrar trainee, an intern, Aboriginal Liaison Officers, nurses, and allied health professionals, you’ll drive clinical excellence and innovative care.
You will also help to guide and lead the Psychiatry Liaison Nurse Service, ensuring thorough daily reviews for emergency department presentations and acute mental health cases in the general hospital. You'll also be a mentor, guiding and supervising junior medical staff, fostering their development while upholding the highest standards of psychiatric care.
With 80-90% of patients being Aboriginal, cultural competency is at the heart of this role. Working closely with Aboriginal Liaison Officers, you’ll ensure that care is culturally responsive, aligning with the values, beliefs, and unique needs of Aboriginal communities. This is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of mental health and culture within Aboriginal populations while managing a wide range of psychiatric presentations, including first-episode psychosis, mood disorders, and substance use disorders.
You will also provide clinical leadership, consultation, liaison and support to patients, carers, relevant stakeholders and immediate healthcare professionals throughout the Kimberley region in Western Australia.

Remuneration
- up to AUD$657k pa (depending on level of consultant experience) PLUS add ons (extended leave etc. accommodation assistance)
Rem breakdown includes but is not limited to:
- $35k pa CPD allowance (paid w. salary).
- 3 month salary retention bonus after 3yrs service then per annum bonus.
- 11.5% employer paid pension (going up to 12% in July 2025).

Selection criteria
- FRANZCP OR equivalent (UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, NZ trained, for example)
- Broad experience in psychiatric services. .
- Demonstrated skills as a medical expert, communicator, collaborator, manager, health advocate, scholar and professional.
- Experience in service development, working with colleagues to do so.
- Be experienced in telehealth psychiatry.
- High level verbal and written communication skills.
- High level organisational and IT skills.

- be prepared for travel throughout the region with regular overnight stays away.
- be prepared to participate in the on-call roster.
- have an interest in indigenous health and culture.
