About Rockhampton Hospital:
Rockhampton Hospital is a 305-bed facility, the central referral hospital for Central Queensland. It offers a wide range of specialist medical services, including Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, General Surgery, and Geriatrics. They host training programs in partnership with the University of Queensland and Central Queensland University.
The unit offers comprehensive care, including Echocardiography, Stress Imaging, Cardiac CT, Heart Failure Management, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Chest Pain Assessment. A new unit upgrade is underway - opening 2026 - and a new state of the art Cardiac Catheterisation Lab will be installed, expanding the Cardiac Investigation Unit, increasing inpatient capacity.
The Role:
As an Interventional Cardiologist, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based care across the Coronary Care Unit, Cardiology Ward, Outpatient Clinics, and Catheterisation Laboratory, while actively participating in on-call and weekend rosters.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited:
- Delivering compassionate, patient-centered care, managing the delivery of patient care in the area of Cardiology, including the management of complex clinical situations.
- Supporting ongoing safety and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participating in education, research, and training within the team - including in the supervision, education, and professional development of Cardiac Catheterisation Lab staff.
-Rostered duties include a minimum of 2 general cardiology outpatient clinic sessions and 1 cath lab session.
-Specific duties may involve ward rounds, outpatient services (Telehealth and outreach services), procedural work, and multidisciplinary team meetings.

Your Qualifications:
- A fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent overseas qualification (e.g. CCT or CSCST) is essential. Overseas trained applicants whose training has already been assessed by RACP as being 'substantially comparable' will be highly regarded.
- Interventional Cardiology subspecialty training.
- Evidence of active participation in a Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD).
- Evidence of current minimum PCI volumes demonstrating compliance with CSANZ competency (certified logbook must be provided).
- Evidence of participation in primary PCI rosters and case volumes as per CSANZ guidelines
- Demonstrate clinical and academic research skills and experience.
- Interventional experience in a non-cardiothoracic surgical centre, qualification in Cardiac CT and/or Cardiac MRI is highly desirable.
